Bouldering is a form of climbing
usually practised on small rock boulders, or at indoor walls. Bouldering is
carried out at lower heights than roped climbing. The "boulderer" is
able to climb down or jump down from the wall (so ropes and harnesses are not
required).
NICAS is a UK-wide scheme designed to promote climbing development and accredit individual achievement on artificial climbing structures. It’s a starting point for people wishing to take up climbing and mountaineering, from novice to experienced, starting from age 8 at HarroWall through the medium of bouldering.
The scheme (NICAS) runs from Level 1, through to Level 5 – Level 1 is the entry level, for those new to the sport and wanting to learn what bouldering is as a physical activity and how to use a bouldering wall safely. Level 5 are for those at a performance level, as a highly competent boulderer and will have advanced skills and knowledge of training and bouldering as well as experience of competitions at a local and national level. Completing Level 5 takes a minimum of 12 months and a substantial amount of effort and motivation, with a lot of self-led learning.
As I’m sure you can imagine, NICAS could be a young person’s first step into a new life sport; one that’s rapidly growing and is having its benefits continually proved, benefits being:
- a Mental Challenge: working out the best route to climb
- an Achievement: when you get there!
- a Workout: an all-over body workout, accessible yet challenging
We will run the NICAS sessions during school term time to avoid minimal disruption whilst families go away for holidays over holiday periods.
Timing varies, depending on the days - we tend to run the sessions for the older children later, but otherwise the sessions are after school during the week and during the mornings/early afternoon over the weekend.
Specfic days and times are available to see when looking to book on the specific level/age group.
As NICAS is booked as a subscription, the cancellation window is relative to the "next billing date" which will fall on the 1st of the next month.
We require 14 days or mores notice to cancel the upcoming subscription to give you a full refund. If you cancel within 14 days of the next billing date, you are not entitled to a refund.
You can cancel the booking through your online account.
In either case, your booking will terminate at the end of the current month - if your session happens to fall on the last day of the month, you are still eligible to attend that session, but none after the 1st of the next month.
For session changes - age bracket, or level, please get in touch with us to check for feasibility; we'll action if there is availability. There is no extra charge for this, but that booking has to remain on the same session for the minimum of 1 month.
Please note, the space on the previous session will then be open to be booked by others, which means it may become unavailable for you to switch back onto, if that is your intention.
