NICAS is a UK-wide scheme designed to promote climbing development and accredit individual achievement on artificial climbing structures. It’s a starting point for people wishing to take up climbing and mountaineering, starting from age 7.
The scheme runs from Level 1 through to Level 5: Level 1 is the entry level for those new to the sport and wanting to learn what bouldering is as a physical activity and how to use a bouldering wall safely. Level 5 are for those at performance level and will have advanced skills and knowledge of training and bouldering as well as experience of competitions at a local and national level.
All participants start at Level 1, even if they have previous experience. Previous experience will allow you to progress more quickly through the scheme. Those new to the scheme should commence with the Foundation class.
The sessions are booked on a half-termly basis and run during term time.
Please note that there will be a one-off payment of £9.00 for the NICAS Logbook on the very first session. This logbook and folder then stays with the participant as they move through the scheme. Please make sure we are aware of any SEN requirements or other disabilities your child may have so our instructors can accommodate accordingly. Please give us a call to disucss before booking and paying for the NICAS Term.
